The
Imbalance
When the Precept of Seek Knowledge overwhelms the other Aspects and Precepts that produce Human consciousness, the result is Hubris. Hubris occurs when the conjunction between Aspect of Sentience and Aspect of Wonder becomes disproportionately emphasized. As this Precept of Human consciousness increases within the circle of a Person's life, all other Aspects and Precepts are diminished. In order to increase the importance of the Precept of Seek Knowledge, both the Aspects of Wonder and Sentience must also increase their influence upon a Person's consciousness. As these two Aspects grow in importance, the Aspect of Awe must necessarily diminish. A Person who overemphasizes the Precept of Seek Knowledge does not understand the Universe, or take it into account in their life. When the Wonder diminishes, the Precept of Be Nice must also diminish in proportion. A Person who overemphasizes Seek Knowledge, substitutes education for friendship and intellectual achievement for personal merit. Such a Person disregards those who do not achieve intellectually as being inconsequential regardless of their other qualities. When Wonder is diminished, the Precept of Obey Laws is diminished in proportion. Such a Person believes that laws were created for other people, who do not understand the reasons for their existence. Such a Person would contend that he or she is above the law because they know more than others. A Person who overemphasizes the Precept of Seek Knowledge, in the belief that he or she is strong enough or wise enough to control their own destiny, is guilty of hubris. A Society that exaggerates the Precept of Seek Knowledge, by ignoring the awesome forces of the Universe, sows the seeds of its own destruction. |
